Julius Caesar 2014

Summer 2014 – This drama is one of the great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare. Julius Caesar is a highly ambitious political leader in Rome and his aim is to become dictator. Caesar is warned that he must “beware the Ides of March”. The prophecy comes true and Caesar is assassinated due to the plotting of Marcus Brutus and Cassius. The friend of Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, provides the famous funeral oration (“Friends, Romans, and countrymen…”) Brutus and Cassius meet their inevitable defeat which plunges the country into civil war.

The Comedy of Errors 2013

Summer 2013 – The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth (Shakespeare was father to one pair of twins). Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.

Twelfth Night 2012

Summer 2012 – Shakespeare once again conjures up a wonderful plot, where brother and sister – twins – are separated during a shipwreck. Viola, the girl twin, dresses as a boy and calls herself Cesario. She finds work in the court of Count Orsino where she falls in love with her master, the Count. Unfortunately for her, the Count is in love with the Countess Olivia, and sends Cesario to the Countess to proclaim his love. Upon their meeting, the Countess falls in love with Cesario – and then the fun begins. In the Countess’s household, there is constant rumbling between Sir Toby, her uncle, and Malvolio, the chief steward. Add to the mix, a jester named Feste, and you have the makings of a great farce.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2010

Summer 2010 – My! The woods outside Athens are a busy place on this magical night! Four runaway lovers find themselves smack bang in the middle of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies, and, as if that wasn’t enough, a troupe of amateur actors are trying to rehearse a play.

Between these unlikely groups flies Puck, armed only with a wicked sense of humour and a love potion capable of making anyone fall for the first person they set eyes upon. What could possibly go wrong?
